Mission Statement

To provide fire protection, prevention, education and safety in the most cost effective manner to all residents, properties and businesses of South Brunswick Fire District #3.

We have two fire districts because our taxing authority extends over two county lines. South Brunswick is in Middlesex County, while Franklin is in Somerset County. In order to provide the most effective coverage to the citizens living in this area, the two fire districts were formed more than 30 years ago. This is in keeping with State of NJ statues. This all works due to the extraordinary efforts of the residents of the two areas and the Kingston Fire Company members who live in both areas; South Brunswick's Board takes in lead in most areas for ease of control and because 90% of the taxable revenue comes from the South Brunswick taxpayers, while approximately 10% comes from the Franklin residents.

2022 Budget update, Jan 13, 2022:

On Tuesday, December 29th, 2021, the voters approved only one of the two capital projects for 2022. The Air Breathing Refill station was not approved. The additional firefighter air packs were approved for $40,000. A fire district’s introduced budget, submitted to the NJ Department of Community Affairs (DCA), must be balanced and be at or under the levy cap established pursuant to the 2010 levy cap law (N.J.S.A. 40A:4-45.45). The District intents to stay within the 2% cap for budget increases.

Click here to view the Resolution to amend the budget which will be presented at the special hearing on January 24th. See details below.

If you would like to calculate your Fire Tax for the calendar year:

2021 Fire tax = (home assessed value/100) x 0.101

2022 Fire tax= (home assessed value/100) x 0.102

Fo example on a $300,000 assessed home value

300,000/100 x 0.101 = $303 in 2021

300,000/100 x 0.102 =$306 in 2022
